Do you ever have a moment when you’re afraid to move forward? You’re about to start a new business or make a key career decision when suddenly this intangible feeling stops you cold. The “what if?” questions start to swell around your brain convincing you of your failure before you’ve even begun.
King Saul had that moment. God picked him to be the first king of Israel and when it came time for the declaration where was he? Hiding in the coat closet. (No, they didn’t have coat closets then, but read the account here for yourself.)
So when God calls us to move forward in business or just in life, how do we answer that call instead of cowering?
I was chatting with a business coach recently who helps people understand God’s purpose for their lives and helps them develop career goals. I appreciate her perspective. There are a lot of coaches out there, but once the practical work of goal setting and skill assessment has been done, how do they keep you motivated, unafraid and on track? Many coaches use positive thinking and spiritual techniques that teach you to meditate and dig down deep or reach out to the Universe or other higher powers for clarity. Some people try to adapt their spiritual atmosphere to align with where they want to go in hopes that positive energy will keep negative business actions at bay.
Let me ask you? Who or what is the source that you are depending on to guide your future? As you can infer from many of these techniques, even the business world of non-Christians understand that a holistic spiritual mindset is necessary to accomplish something and overcome fear. Yet, any source apart from Christ, be it self, the universe, energy, qi, etc. draws power not from God but from the enemy. There are only two sources of power in the world. You must know and choose whose counsel you will sit under, as you will give permission for one or the other to rule in your life. Opt for a Christian coach with a clear world view of Christ. Know your source
Great! Now we’ve opted to let Christ lead us, but what is He saying? Where are we going?
Well, if you want to hear God’s plans for you, you have to set aside undisturbed time to spend just with Him on a daily basis. (I am still learning the art of this and yes, it is a daily battle to remain free from distraction.) That’s when God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit. That’s the kind of meditation that the Lord is after. You sit before Him, read His word, talk to Him and listen for what He has to say. You are focused on Him, not on emptying your mind of worry. As you get deeper and deeper into His presence, that’s where you find your clarity, because He takes the worry and fear from you as you release it to Him. He adjusts your mental paradigm and He brings you His peace.
People say a lot about meditation but God gives a prescription in Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Sitting in the presence of God while you think about His Word and what He has done gives the Lord permission to whisper to your mind and heart.
Remember, their are only two sources of power in this world and the first battle ground is in your mind. Christian and non-Christian agree on that. It’s up to you to choose your source and walk fear-free. Leave me a message and tell me what step you will take today
